View all search resultsany owners of big and luxurious houses in South Jakarta refused to allow workers to spray insecticide with fogging machines, Mayor Marullah Matali has said, although the municipality has recorded a spike of dengue fever cases.
“[Some] residents do not allow workers to enter their houses,” Marullah told kompas.com on Tuesday.
He said he had instructed the mosquito larvae controllers to encourage the home owners to check crucial spots by themselves to eradicate mosquitoes.
“[Residents] have to fill in a form stating that spots on their properties that may be larvae nest have been checked,” he added.
According to the Jakarta Health Agency, South Jakarta recorded the highest number of dengue fever cases in the capital, with the district of Jagakarsa accounting for most incidents. As of Sunday, there were 231 cases in the municipality, compared to 169 cases in East Jakarta and 153 in West Jakarta.
Marullah said he had communicated with the Jakarta Food Security, Marine and Agriculture Agency to distribute certain plants to residents believed to be able to repel mosquitoes, such as lavender and zodia. (fac)
