H

ospitals in Bogor regency, West Java, have prepared extra beds to cater to the increasing number of dengue fever patients following five deaths.

The regency has recorded 231 dengue cases, including five deaths, as of the fourth week of January.

Regency-owned Cibinong Hospital medical unit head Fusia Meidiawaty said 155 dengue fever patients had been recorded at the hospital as of Jan. 28.

“The patients keep on coming,” Fusia said on Wednesday as quoted by tempo.co.

To anticipate the coming patients, Fusia said the hospital had prepared 50 beds made out of tarpaulin mattresses supported by blocks of wood or iron, also known as velbeds.

“We have borrowed the velbeds from the Indonesian Military (TNI). We will place them in some rooms and in the hallways of the hospital,” she said.

Regency-owned Ciawi Hospital spokesperson Heri Juhaeri said the hospital had recorded 140 patients, including one death, as of the third week of January. The patients included 58 children and 88 adults, Heri said. (ars)
