T

he police have arrested a student from Maleber in Ciamis, West Java, after he was reported for raping and impregnating an underage girl, who later turned out to be his younger step-sister.

The two originally knew each other through Facebook and decided to meet in August last year.

"Prior to the meeting, they did not know each other. The suspect and the victim turned out to be siblings who were born from different mothers," Ciamis Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Bismo Teguh Prakoso said as quoted by kompas.com on Friday.

Following their meeting, the man allegedly forced the victim into having sex with him thrice at different places, Bismo said.

The families of the victim and suspect then decided to meet after the victim became pregnant and gave birth, only to find out that the victim and the suspect had the same father.

"The father left the suspect when the suspect's mother was still pregnant with him," Bismo added.

The victim's family then reported the case to the police.

Following the incident, the victim dropped out from school and is undergoing trauma treatment with the Ciamis Police's women's and children's protection unit, the Child Protection and Empowerment and Population Control Agency (PPAPP) and other experts.

The suspect could receive a prison sentence of between five and 15 years if charged under Article 76 of the law on child protection. (ars)
