he Health Ministry has instructed the Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung, West Java to suspend its residency program for anesthesiologists following the arrest of a resident doctor of Padjajaran University who allegedly raped a patient in March.

The residency program in anesthesiology at Hasan Sadikin is offered jointly by the medical faculty of Padjadjaran University.

The suspension of the program will last for one month to allow the hospital and the faculty “to evaluate and improve supervision and governance” of the program, Health Ministry spokesperson Aji Muhawarman said in a statement on Thursday.

The ministry has also requested that the Indonesian Medical Council (KKI) remove alleged rapist Priguna Anugerah Pratama from the list of registered doctors, automatically annulling his medical license.

Priguna was arrested by the West Java Police on March 23 after the results of forensic examinations of the victim, identified only by her initials FH, showed indications of rape that occurred when the woman was accompanying her critically ill father at the hospital a week before.

The first-year anesthesiology resident allegedly lured the woman into an unused room around 1 a.m. on March 18 under the pretense of conducting a blood type crossmatch test. He reportedly administered the sedative Midazolam, causing her to lose consciousness.
