“We received information from the Kerinci Police’s criminal investigation division that their fugitives were in the Bengkalis area,” Bengkalis Police criminal investigation division head Adj. Comr. Setiawan told The Jakarta Post.
A team from the Bengkalis Police was formed to investigate the matter, leading to the arrest.
The three inmates — Syafrizal, 37, Mike Putra Wijaya, 37, and Rahmat Dani, 24 — were all convicted on drug charges.
Syafrizal, who comes from Rokan Hilir, was sentenced to nine years in prison; Mike, who is from Sungai Penuh, Jambi, was sentenced to six years and eight months; while Rahmat, who from Sungai Penuh, Jambi, was sentenced to five years and six months.
The inmates escaped on June 10 through the prison’s sewage system. They then climbed a guard post and lowered themselves down the other side with pieces of fabric tied together.
Syafrizal was shot in the leg while resisting arrest.
A fourth escaped inmate, Herman Piton, 24, is still at large. (asp)
