T MRT Jakarta is set to provide a bicycle parking area at the Cipete Raya MRT Station in South Jakarta, free to use for MRT passengers who ride bicycles to the station.
PT MRT Jakarta president director William Sabandar said the parking area would be open from 5 a.m. to midnight, with security guards present in the area.
The parking area will be available as from next week, William was quoted as saying by kompas.com. However, it will only have space for seven to nine bikes.
Bicycle users will have to use their own chains and padlocks to secure their bikes.
He advised bicycle owners not to park their bikes beyond opening hours as the security guards would lock the parking area precisely at midnight.
William expressed hope that the parking space could serve the community well, saying that the company would also consider providing bicycle parking space at other MRT stations. (syk)
