akarta International Expo (JIExpo) Kemayoran in Jakarta is slated to host Salon International d’almentation (SIAL) Interfood 2017 on Nov. 22 to 25.
The event is an international food and beverages fair, with 825 companies from 32 countries as participants.
“This year the number of participants is up by around 12 percent. Last year there were more than 27,000 people who signed up online, this year it has reached 50,000 people,” said Tourism Ministry’s archipelago tourism marketing development deputy, Esthy Reko Astuti.
“In 2015, the culinary [industry] contributed 30 percent from tourism sector’s total income,” Esthy added.

Moreover, the culinary industry has contributed 208.6 trillion rupiahs of gross earnings with an average growth of 4.5 percent. The industry also creates up to 3.7 million jobs with an average growth of 0.26 percent and has produced three million businesses with an average growth of 0.9 percent.
“In its 17th year there will be something different, apart from exhibition there will be competitions held for the first time such as gelato-making, cooking, barista, roasting and food serving,” said the event’s committee’s head Daud D. Salim.
