The 24th Indonesian Dance Festival (IDF) 2016 is slated to run from Nov. 1 to 5 in several locations in Jakarta.

As reported by tempo.co, the event will open with a dance performance by Abdullah Wong and Jefriandi Usman on Oct. 30 at Hutan Kota Kali Pesanggrahan in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta.

Many international performers are scheduled to participate in the event, including Park Je Chun from South Korea, Antony Hamilton from Australia, Aguibou Bougobali Sanou from Burkina Faso and Tian Rotteveel from the Netherlands. Themed Tubuh Sonik (sonic body), IDF aims to showcase the many artistic forms of the human body together with sound waves in various spaces and dimensions that interact with one another.

One of the festival's curators Helly Minarti said some of the works developed by the youth of today involved more than just music in a dance art. “Through this festival, we want to explore the possibilities of artistic approaches beyond the art of dance and music,” she added.

Sonic not only related with sound, Helly said, but could also be in the form of a vibration. "Hopefully there will be many new works produced through these collaboration of disciplines."

In addition to dance performances, the festival will also host critical writing workshop from a journalistic perspective, master classes from choreographers, discussions, workshops for young choreographers and an award ceremony for notable dancers in the country. (kes)
