ew research with 130 overweight participants found that people lose as much weight biking to the office every weekday as people doing fitness programs.
The study followed four groups. The first group rode their bikes to their workplace, the second group exercised five times a week for 55 minutes, the third exercised for 35 minutes and the last did nothing.
The paper, which was published in the International Journal of Obesity, showed that only the first three groups lost weight.

According to the Telegraph, one of the researchers, Professor Bente Stallknecht, stated that cycling could be seen as multitasking -- rather than seeing exercise and daily commute as two separate things, you could kill two birds with one stone by cycling to work.
The study was done in Copenhagen, where the streets are, of course, much safer than Jakarta.
Nonetheless, if the roads are clear and it’s early enough in the morning, consider taking your bike, rather than your car, out for a spin. (ezr/kes)
