or many, eating meat is a staple of life, especially red meat. But research has shown that overconsumption of red meat can cause heart disease, diabetes, colorectal cancer and other ailments.
Some people respond to this by adopting the other extreme – avoiding read meat altogether. This is possible if you use other food sources to supplement yourself with the essential nutrients found in red meat, such as zinc, magnesium and vitamin B.

According to Popular Science, it is going to be harder to find alternatives, especially for iron, since red meat is saturated with a type that is easily absorbed called “heme iron.”
Registered dietician and sports nutritionist Leslie Bonci said, "Anytime you take something off the plate, you have to replace them. And that’s not what everybody remembers to do."
So if you plan to skip the red meat tonight, just remember to substitute it with something equally as nutritious. (ezr/kes)
