ENPASAR: Exports of Bali's small industry products, including clothing, shoes and plastic products, reached US$180.2 million in 2007 -- an increase of 11.1 percent from the previous year, an official said Thursday.
"This means consumers are getting more attracted to the products we have to offer," Bali Trade and Industry Agency Foreign Trade division head Ni Wayan Kusumawathi said as quoted by Antara.
She said that two years ago, export earnings from those products, particularly clothing, had decreased due to strong competition from China, the Philippines and Thailand, which could offer lower prices for similar products.
"But now clothes have contributed the highest export income during 2007 with a total value of $123 million, a nine percent increase from the $112.8 million exports recorded in 2006," she said, adding that apparently the Indonesian producers and exporters had gradually won the upper-hand in the competition.
