The extension of the ban on Indonesian airlines to European countries represents an unavoidable conclusion due to government failure to comply with the EU standard.

In solving this problem the government together with the House of Representatives must speed up the amendment of the 1992 Air Transportation Law which could accommodate safety monitoring system. Otherwise the ban on Indonesian carriers may continue and will affect the tourist industry.

I don't want to be on a flight which is prohibited by the EU. Safety has to be of the highest level. We are put at risk by our government and the airline companies. They have to meet the safety criteria. Due to no other choice, we are forced to use unsafe flights.

Europe uses certain rules and that the ban is prolonged means all carriers do not fulfill EU demands. So it is fair. Nobody wants to hit Indonesian airlines. I myself was using Garuda to Europe a lot with great pleasure. I wish they come back soon.

JAN DE JONG

Jakarta

I think this is good statement from the European Union. It has good purpose. Why can I say that I like it? Because Indonesia airplane's equipment are all second things.

Our government is not serious about service and safety of the passengers. So from this case, our government and aviation businessmen must carry out introspection. Don't just always be angry at them.

RIEL F. HARIANJA

Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands

The question is not about being fair or not. But, is it safe? The answer is still no, as you can learn from every single flight. Is it not enough to have unskilled drivers without a valid license on Indonesian streets? In international traffic, everybody has to follow the rules or stay at home.

CLAUDIO

Jepara, Central Java

Yes it is fair. Indonesia carriers should meet EU standards instead complaining.

EMSARIL

Jakarta

It's not fair. We know that our carriers have become much better now.

JOKO SARWONO

Surakarta, Central Java

It's fair. It would apply to any country which ignores its safety obligations.

AMAND NEERAVA

Denpasar

The EU ban on Indonesian carriers is fair. It is just a warning to the government to check all airplanes two times annually as IATA requires.
