JAKARTA: The country's largest telecommunications company PT Telkom has made some 3,000 Internet hotspots available around the Greater Jakarta area.
"As of October, 3,000 Internet hotspots were available around Greater Jakarta," Telkom executive general manager for Greater Jakarta, Mas'ud Khamid, said in a press release made available to The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.
The internet hotspots include the National Monument (Monas) park, the Gelora Bung Karno sports hall, the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle, the Istiqlal Mosque and the House of Representatives in Senayan, all located in Central Jakarta. Hotspots are also available at rest areas along toll roads, the At-Tien Mosque in East Jakarta and the University of Indonesia campus in Depok.
He said there were some 5,000 hotspot services available nationwide at campuses, schools, malls, cafes, museums, city parks, hotels, hospitals, mosques and offices.
"The number of hotspots is growing due to the importance of Internet connection for both communication and education." -- JP
