TANGERANG: A public minivan crashed into a tree early Monday in Mauk, Tangerang, leaving four passengers dead and nine others severely wounded.

The passengers rented the public minivan and were heading to Pasar Baru area in Tangerang after attending a wedding ceremony in Jati village, kompas.com reported.

The driver, identified as Rauk, fled the scene after the accident and is now wanted by the police, head of Tangerang traffic police Adj. Comr. Risto Samudera said Monday.

The police have identified the four dead passengers. So far, no family members have claimed the bodies, and until Monday afternoon, they were still at Tangerang General Hospital's morgue. -- JP
