JAKARTA: The Attorney General's Office (AGO) gathered hundreds of district prosecutor's office heads from across the country to familiarize them with the 2008 law on national legislative elections.
Attorney General Hendarman Supandji said the three-day gathering, which began Tuesday, aimed to get regional prosecutors all on the same page in preparation for possible offenses during the upcoming elections.
"Prosecutors must be able to anticipate violations of the legislature's elections law," he said in his opening remarks in Cisarua, West Java.
Hendarman said prosecutors must refer not only to the law on handling criminal offenses but also to recently released guidelines which call for cooperation among relevant institutions including the National Police and the General Elections Supervisory Board (Bawaslu).
Indonesia will hold direct elections in April 2009 for all legislators serving in the House of Representatives. -- JP
