The constant usage of plastic to individually pack buns in many bakeries in Jakarta is damaging our environment in too many ways.

The plastic that they use to individually wrap their buns causes more permanent harm to the environment than temporary benefit to the consumer.

Imagine how many plastic wrappings are discarded every day from all the bakeries in Jakarta! Apart from causing major floods in the city, they fill up our oceans, where sea animals feed on them and die. Is it really necessary to individually wrap each bun?

I frequently visit bread outlets, being a bread lover, and I appeal to them to act as a leader in their industry. Every time I visit one of their many branches, I always have to ask for the buns to be given in a paper box, without any plastic wrappers because I want to do my little part to save the environment.

The counter person then gives me a "Why do you need a box?" look, so then I have to explain that I don't want to pollute the rivers and oceans which leads to heavy flooding. But they still ask me to pay Rp. 2000 for the box, which I willingly do, with a smile.

I strongly request all bread outlets to please stop the usage of nonbiodegradable materials, such as plastic. Please do your part to save our beloved environment!
