BALIKPAPAN, E. Kalimantan: Three people suffered serious burns Tuesday when gas leaked by an LPG canister exploded in a bakery.

The three victims, Daryanto, 16, Windi, 25, and Ariyadi, 18, -- who are all employees at the bakery -- were taken to Kanudjoso Djatiwibowo General Hospital.

The explosion stopped the clocks at 10 a.m. local time (9 a.m. Jakarta time) at the Amelia Bakery in the Adiguna housing complex in Balikpapan.

Workers had taken the leaking gas canister out of the bakery, but by that time the kitchen had filled with gas.

"Fire blazed suddenly when we turned on the oven. It seems that the gas was still there," Ariyadi said.

"The kitchen was already stuffy with the smell of gas before the blaze."

Ariyadi suffered burns on his arms and legs and Daryanto suffered burns on his legs. Windi suffered burns on most of her body. -- JP
