Guess What?: Leony ventures into film editing

JAKARTA: Singer and actress Leony has a new job that comes with the potential to keep her up all night: assistant film editor.

Former member of children group Trio Kwek Kwek is set to take part in the production of a new independent movie, Identitas (Identity). She will not only star in, but also help edit the fi lm, directed by Aria Kusumadewa.

"I used get home about three or four in the morning when I fi rst learned how to edit a fi lm," the 21-year-old told detik.com.

Leony, whose real name Leony Vitria Hartanti, said that although she has no educational background in fi lm editing the fi lm crew gave her a chance when she asked.

"I was just interested in doing it so I asked the fi lm crew and they said *why not'. It was my first time and I was so amazed."

Leony, who has released 13 albums with and won hundreds of awards since her days with Trio said she learned enough from director Aria.

"He is my mentor. I learned a lot about fi lm from him," she said. Together with Dhea Ananda and Affandy, Leony fi rst burst into the public eye as a child singer, but as teenager, Leony became more active in fi lm and sinetron TV soap operas.

She has stared in more than 15 of the melodramas including Anak Ajaib (Amazing Child), Sahabatku (My Best Friend), Jangan Panggil Aku Cina (Don't Call Me Cina), Wo Ai Ni Indonesia, and 12 Lilin (12 candles). - JP
