ENPASAR: The Denpasar Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Agency, along with the traditional market authority, on Friday began sequestering fowl traders at Badung Market to one area in the corner of the market, in an effort to help the authorities monitor and contain the possible spread of the bird flu virus.

Badung Market is the island's largest traditional market. It lies right in the heart of downtown Denpasar. Fowl traders previously occupied several different sections of the market, including the open-air surrounding yard.

"The relocation will make it easier for my staff to conduct regular monitoring on the area's cleanliness as well as the origins of the traded fowl, and to spray disinfectant," said agency head I Dewa Made Ngurah.
