TANGERANG: Tangerang city councilors urged the Banten provincial administration to build pedestrian bridges along crowded Jl. Raya Serpong because people are frequently hit by passing vehicles.
"The construction of bridges is urgent for pedestrians," said councilor Decky Syafrudin.
Decky said bridges would reduce both traffic accidents and congestion along the road.
He said the administration promised earlier to build bridges at four points, namely Gading Serpong junction, Pratama Abadi Industry, Alam Sutra traffic circle and WTC.
"We hope the administration will fulfill its promise," said another councilor, Tb. Bayu Moerdani.
Bayu said if the administration was cash-strapped, it could cooperate with developers in the neighborhood to help build the bridges.
There are only two crossing bridges along the 12-kilometer road which has become more crowded since the opening of the Pondok Indah-Bumi Serpong Damai turnpike in 2006. - JP
