ENPASAR: Bali's economy expanded by a respectable 5.97 percent last year, slightly faster than the island's economic growth in 2007 of 5.92 percent, though still slower than the national economic growth rate of 6.06 percent.
Udayana University economist I Nyoman Erawan said the growth rate was respectable despite being slower than the targeted rate of 6 percent.
"It's pretty good, actually, considering last year's economic shockwaves such as the spike in crude oil prices and the recent economic crisis," he said.
