JAMBI: The number of families entitled to the rice-for-the-poor program has dropped to 20,527 families this year from 21,502 families last year, says Jambi Mayor H.M. Damiri.
"If we compare the figure with last year's number of families for the rice-for-the-poor, it has decreased by 975 families," he said over the weekend.
However, Damiri admitted the decrease was due mostly to the different census methods employed by the Central Statistics Agency.
He added his administration would still allocate
Rp 1 billion (US$84,745) to subsidize the program this year, while the rice would still be sold at Rp 1,000 per kilogram. -JP
