Rieke welcomes baby boy, and soon, elections

RIEKE: JP/R. BERTO WEDHATAMA

JAKARTA: Actress and activist Rieke Diah Pitaloka has a new bundle of joy: A baby son, but he will soon have to share Rieke’s busy schedule as she campaigns for the upcoming election.

“It has been a wonderful experience. I can’t even sleep because of this happy feeling,” Rieke said.

She gave birth to Sagara Kawani Adiansyah on March 11, 2009 in a hospital in Bandung, West Java.

“The baby’s name, which means sea of bravery, is taken from the Sundanese language,” she said, adding that Sagara is 2.93 kilograms and 51.3 centimeters long.

Rieke said she was proud of giving birth normally.

“The doctor suggested I have a caesarean, but I refused it. I believe that giving birth normally can enhance the emotional bond between me and my baby,” Rieke, who gained popularity playing the role of Oneng in the comedy serial Bajaj Bajuri, said.

Vowing to spend her time with her baby, Rieke, however said she has to also consider her campaign schedule.

“As a legislative candidate I have a responsibility to my party,” Rieke, who is promoted by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), said.

“Now I’m waiting for two weeks before I can start campaigning again. The general election is days away, anyway,” she said. – JP
