lthough the Easter children's party had not yet begun, a few kids had enthusiastically gathered around a well-manicured garden at the Bali Hyatt Resort in Sanur on this bright Sunday.
Waiting for the real party to begin, some children chose to visit the in-house kid's club, which lies next to the garden, and get their faces painted.
Nicholas, 7, was having his face turned into a cute tiger.
"I like to have my face painted yellow. I'm a tiger, arrr!" the little tiger joked around with his big sister, Stephanie, 9, who was getting her face painted into a bubbly butterfly. "No. You look more like a cat rather than a tiger, Nicholas," said Stephanie, teasing her brother. At 10 a.m. sharp, general manager Rinny Marhayani, who was acting as MC and program director, called upon all 18 participating kids - mostly children of the resort's guests - to start the fiesta. "Okay, kids! First, we will go on an egg hunt. You all can go around the garden to find hidden colorful eggs. Each egg is worth a piece of chocolate, so collect as much as you can, alright?" she said through a loudspeaker.
The children answered with a loud, joyful scream.
During the hunt, most parents tried to help their kids in subtle but no less enthusiastic ways.
"It's right over there!" one mother said as she secretly pointed her daughter toward an egg hidden in the bushes.
The egg hunting ended with a little girl, Summer, topping the others by collecting more than 37 eggs. She received the promised reward: 37 bars of chocolate and a doll.
Without much comment, Summer enjoyed her prizes and asked her mom for a swim.
The party continued with a more artsy activity: egg painting. Each child was given a wooden egg sketched with drawings of flowers and fishes. The kids were tasked with coloring in the eggs.
Some of the children obediently followed the sketches on the eggs, while others liberated themselves from the given boundaries and turned the eggs into a tapestry of abstract images.
This time, Isabela, 7, won the prize. She neatly painted a flower-themed egg in lovely red, yellow and green. "Yes, it was fun! I'm really happy I can win the competition," Isabela told The Jakarta Post.
"I would love to have *egg painting* again next year."
On the sidelines of the party's official activities, Kit, 7, and Evie,5, enjoyed playing chess on the hotel's giant chess board. Kit tutored his kid sister in a gentle, supportive manner.
