ANYUMAS, Central Java: Two days of heavy downpour in southern Central Java province have inundated at least 500 houses and school buildings across the neighboring regencies of Banyumas and Cilacap.
Among the worst hit areas are Kawunganten and Bantarsari, Cilacap, where some 450 houses were submerged in up to a meter of water.
"The rains were extremely heavy. Water quickly flooded the houses," Karseno, 45, of Kalijeruk subdistrict, Kawunganten, said.
Over 240 houses in the village were affected.
Head of Cilacap's Disaster Handling Agency Dangir Mulyadi said Citembong, Kedungwadas and Binangun in Bantarasari district were among the worst affected areas.
Apart from flooding some 200 houses, waters in Citembong completely destroyed three houses and two bridges.
