EKANBARU: Thousands of job hunters flocked a four-day job expo Monday in Pekanbaru, Riau, competing for more than 2,500 jobs on offer from around 85 local and national firms.

"It is true that the number of vacancies is much lower than those seeking out jobs. But at least around 7 to 8 percent of attendees will be absorbed through this event," Pekanbaru Manpower Agency head Ikhwan Nasution said on the sidelines at the expo's opening ceremony.

He said the annual event, which is organized by the agency and is free to the public, attracted a large number of visitors and participating firms.
