AKARTA: Governor Fauzi Bowo said Saturday that his administration had decided to include the Kemang Festival on its annual calendar of festivities.
The event is also known as the "door-bolting festival" (Festival Palang Pintu in Indonesian) as the road is closed off, or "bolted" shut, for the occasion.
"I approve of the door-bolting festival becoming an annual event, thus, as of 2010, this festival will become a routine," Fauzi said during his opening speech at the festival.
The festival is aimed at supporting the preservation of Betawi culture, which is becoming more and more marginalized with the abundance of modern influences in the Kemang area, he added.
