JAKARTA: Catwalk model and TV show host Olga Lidya has a new profession: Selling an island. Not just any island, but Komodo island.
And, fortunately, she’s not literally putting it on the market, but is gathering public support to have the island recognized as one of the world’s greatest natural wonders.
“I was asked by the Cultural Affairs Ministry to ask as many people as possible to vote for Komodo island,” Olga said, as quoted by entertainment newsportal kapanlagi.com at the weekend.
Currently, Komodo island, home to the rare giant lizard Komodo, which is native to Indonesia, is on the shortlist with 27 other sites across the world for a nomination for the upcoming list of the Seven Wonders of the World.
The final decision will be made in 2011.
“It’s still a long way to go until the deadline. There’s plenty of time to start telling people how interesting the island is. It’s the only finalist with a rare animal as an icon,” the 32-year-old said.
“We can show our support through various means. We can vote through the Internet or by phone and show how we love Komodo.” — JP
