AKARTA: Mampang Police on Monday continued their search for a man who assaulted Transjakarta traffic officer Melodi Tarigan, 25. Melodi was beaten while on duty on Jl. Mampang Prapatan in South Jakarta, last Thursday afternoon.
The police were following a lead from the offender's car, a Nissan X-Trail minivan with license plate B 1560 VB, Mampang Police chief First Insp. Syamsudin said Monday.
"We are hunting for the perpetrator," said Syamsudin, adding that police may have uncovered a vehicle registration number forgery because according to their database the same license plate was registered to a BMW X5 SUV owned by Timur Sukirno.
Syamsudin said his team would conitinue their investigations. "We have asked the owner *Timur*. He said he sold the car two years ago."
The assault occured after Melodi stopped the offender from using a busway lane on the heavily congested Jl. Mampang Prapatan. The offender then hit Melodi in the head with the butt of his gun, injuring him.
Melodi said that prior to being hit, the offender had looked upset and claimed to be a police officer.
