SEAN Secretary-General Surin Pitsuwan will visit quake-hit areas of West Sumatra on Tuesday, the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta has announced.
"He is to meet with the relevant government authorities, such as the governor of West Sumatra province and the mayor of Padang," Surin's office said.
Elsewhere, the Netherlands announced its pledge of assistance for the victims of last Wednesday's 7.6-magnitude earthquake.
"The Dutch Minister for Development Cooperation Bert Koenders has decided to provide 500,000 euros *Rp 7 billion* in emergency assistance to the victims of Wednesday's earthquake in Sumatra," the Royal Dutch Embassy said in a press release.
"The Indonesian people are once again hit by disaster. We must be prepared to provide assistance," Koenders said in The Hague.
The Dutch assistance will be channeled through the Indonesian Red Cross.
The Norwegian Embassy's first secretary Herborg Fiskaa Alvsaaker said Monday that Oslo's US$3 million assistance for the quake victims would be channeled through the United Nations, the Red Cross and other NGOs.
"Norway will also contribute $52 million to the UN Central Emergency Response Fund to help the countries, including Indonesia, affected by natural disasters," Herborg said.
She also said Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia Eivind S. Homme would visit Padang along with officials from the Norwegian Red Cross on Tuesday.
On Thursday, Moroccan King Mohammed VI sent a message of condolence to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
"I wish personally, and on behalf of the Moroccan people, to offer Your Excellency, the bereaved families and the Indonesian people our most sincere condolences," he said.
Argentine Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship Jorge E. Taiana also sent a similar message to Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda on Monday.
"In the name of the people and government of the Argentine Republic, I would like to express our profound condolences and solidarity, in particular for the numerous families that have being affected by the great losses suffered as a consequence of the natural disaster that has recently struck Indonesia," Taiana said.
