AKARTA: Tanjung Duren Police detectives in West Jakarta have arrested a suspect, Fariz, in the murder of 19-year-old college student Novita Purnamasari in Tanjung Duren last month.

Fariz, also known as Bom Bom, was arrested at a relative's house in Bogor, West Java.

Tanjung Duren Police chief Comr. Jhony Iskandar told The Jakarta Post the suspect was a close friend of Novita's and wanted to borrow Rp 2 million (US$212) from her at the time.

"He went berserk after she refused to lend him the money," he said Wednesday.

Novita was found with her throat slashed at her rented residence in the Mediterania Garden Apartments, Tanjung Duren, on Sept. 20.
