AKARTA: In commemoration of Youth Pledge (Sumpah Pemuda) Day, which falls on Oct. 28 each year, the traffic division of Jakarta Police on Wednesday launched a one-month program to train security guards on the new traffic law.

Around 2,500 security guards in the capital will take part in the program.

The program would strengthen the existing good relations between police and security guards, Jakarta Police traffic division director Sr. Comr. Condro Kirono said.

It could also be a good platform to promote the 2009 Land Transportation and Traffic Controls Law, which sets out several new rules on road use, he said.

"People are still unfamiliar with the new law. Therefore, the gentlemen here could help us promote the new law among the staff at companies where *they* work," Condro said before 170 participants at the launch, as quoted by the Traffic Management Center website, lantas.metro.polri.go.id

Condro also hoped participants could help police manage traffic on streets near their workplaces.
