AKARTA: North Jakarta Public Order subagency officers removed street vendors and makeshift houses from Jl. Melati, Koja, North Jakarta, on Wednesday.
"I screamed for the officers to stop taking my cart but they just carried on," said Yuni, a vendor who sells rice and other food from a cart located over a drainage ditch.
The subagency's operation head, Ganep, said he had followed procedures in clearing the street of vendors and temporary settlements.
"This raid is to enforce the public order bylaw. We had sent them warning letters earlier," Ganep said.
