AKARTA: Constitutional Court chief Mahfud M.D. on Tuesday reported to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) several tokens of gratification he received in 2009. Mahfud said he received 12 awards throughout 2009, but only two were of value. One of them is a placard made with 66 grams of gold, from the Indonesian Islamic University in Yogyakarta.
Mahfud also reported a gift of Rp 20 million (around US$2,100) he received for winning the Person of the Year 2009 award from the mass media.
"It is my legal obligation to report the gratification I receive in the form of money or property. While I understand it is legal *to receive gratification* ... these two *gifts* have monetary value ... I feel that because of my position *as Constitutional Court chief* people can easily quibble," he said.
