ut of the four quarterfinalists, Indonesia's mixed doubles Devin Lahardi/Liliyana Natsir, were on Friday the country's only envoy to advance to the semifinals of the Badminton Asia Championship in New Delhi, following the loss of all their compatriots.

Fifth seed Devin Lahardi/Lilyana Natsir beat Yohan Hadikusumo Wiratama/Ying Suet Tse of Taiwan by 22-20, 21-16 to face their semifinal opponents - either seventh seed Malaysian Peng Soon Chan/Liu Ying Goh or Japanese Hirokatsu Hashimoto/Mizuki Fujii, who dueled later on Friday evening.

However, mixed Tantowi Ahmad/Greysia Polii lost in a 54-minute rubber-set game to sixth seed Yeon Seong Yoo/Min Jung Kim of South Korea. Despite winning 21-17 in the first set, Tantowi/Greysia's performance dropped in the second round, well beaten 12-21. They gave up 17-21 in the third set.

"Tantowi was rushing to win too much, which caused him to make self-errors," mixed doubles coach Richard Mainaky told The Jakarta Post on Friday.

In the semifinals Saturday, the Korean pair will face either Indian first seed Diju Valiyaveetil/Jwala Gutta or Zihan Qiu/Qing Tian of China.

Greysia, this time partnered with her women's doubles partner Meiliana Jauhari, also lost to Vivian Kah Kun Hoo/Khe Wei Woon of Malaysia 24-26, 21-11, 19-21.

The Malaysians will meet fourth seed Savitree Amitapai/Vacharaporn Munkit of Thailand, who beat Taiwanese Pei Chen Hsieh/Pei Rong Wang in a rubber set battle of 22-20, 16-21, 21-18.

Meanwhile, women's doubles Anneke Feinya Agustine/Annisa Wahyuni was unable to handle third seed Wen Hsing Cheng/Yu Chin Chien. Anneke/Annisa surrendered 18-21, 12-21 to the Taiwanese pair in 26-minutes.

In the first set, Anneke/Annisa managed to catch up from 4-8 to lead 9-8. The scores accumulation was very tight but after the 15th point, the Taiwanese pair were unstoppable.

On Saturday, Wen/Yu will meet Chinese sixth seed Pan Pan/Qing Tian, who crushed Japanese second seed Miyuki Maeda/Satoko Suetsuna 21-13, 21-10.

"Anneke, Annisa and Tantowi still needs to have more tournament experience," said head of coach Christian Hadinata on Friday. He added that the shuttlers needed more physical drilling for the upcoming Thomas-Uber Finals in May.

In the men's singles sector, Thais rising shuttler Boonsak Ponsana booked a semifinal spot and face World No. 4 shuttler Lin Dan of China who crushed seventh seed Taiwanese Yun Hu 21-11, 21-10.
