ANDUNG: A team from the Bandung campus of Indonesia Computer University (Unikom) won the gold medal at the Robogames 2010 in San Mateo County Event Center, San Francisco, the university says.

“This was our second win at the event. The first time we won was in June last year,” Unikom rector Eddy Soeryanto Soegoto said Monday.

The event was held from April 24 to 25 and featured participants from 14 countries. Unikom students were awarded the best team in the “Open Fire Fighting Autonomous Robot” category, Eddy said.

The Unikom robot, DU-114, was able to detect and extinguish a fire fastest compared to other robots, Eddy said.

“The robot that won this year demonstrated an improvement over its predecessor in its algorithm and sensor system, which helped it top an increasing level of competition,” he said. — JP
