AKARTA: Firebrand cleric Abu Bakar Ba'asyir says he is ready to be questioned by police after seven members of his congregation, Jamaah Anshoru Tauhid (JAT), were arrested for alleged involvement in terrorism.

"I am ready to be questioned if necessary by police," Ba'asyir said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com in Surakarta on Sunday.

He insisted that the congregation that he had set up in 2008 after leaving Majelis Mujahidin Indonesia was not linked to any terrorist groups.

"There is no link, directly or indirectly," he said.

Last Thursday, the National Police Detachment 88 antiterror unit arrested seven suspected terrorists in a rented house in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, which police said was the JAT headquarters.

According to police, the suspected militants were linked to a terrorist network once led by Dulmatin, who was shot dead by police in Pamulang, South of Jakarta, in March.

Ba'asyir was convicted for involvement in the Bali bombing that killed 202 people in 2002, and was sentenced to 30 months in prison. - JP
