Ask questions, give answers and learn more about your friends.
What am I talking about? I am talking about Formspring.me. The front page of this website may not be enticing with its understated design. But don’t judge a book by its cover.
Formspring is a new website known to be as fun as Facebook or Twitter, although its function is different. It allows users to ask other users random questions. The users who are asked can answer if they choose.
Is that it? This website is just about asking questions and receiving answers? Hold on, don’t say “boring” just yet, I haven’t explained Formspring’s tools.
Like any other website, all you have to do is sign up by clicking the “sign up” button on the front page of the website and fill in the information required. You can also login with your Facebook account if you are too lazy to create a new one.
Next step is checking your inbox where you receive questions. Those questions may come from other users who are following you, or from anonymous people, depending on how you set up your profile. Don’t just stop here though and wait for someone to ask you questions. Go find people you know, which you can do through your email, Facebook or Twitter account. Once you find them, you can start following them, just like Twitter. Now it’s time to start asking questions by including your user info or anonymously.
To personalize your page, go to the “setting” button and select your own theme provided by the website, or you can create a custom background by uploading a background screen.
You may allow other services to connect to your Formspring account such as Tumblr, Blogger, Facebook and Twitter to publish your recent answers for your friends to see if you wish.
Formspring spoiled its users by having a widget that can be embedded anywhere, especially on blogging sites such as Blogger, Wordpress or Tumblr. The widgets let other people ask you questions, even if they don’t have a Formspring account. Choose a color and size for your widget box. If you like what you see in the preview, copy the code and paste it to your blog.
If you don’t have anyone asking you questions, you can “ask yourself a random question”. The questions are generated by the website. If you want, you can disable your account at any time.
The point of Formspring is exchanging questions. This website may be useful for those who have a secret crush. Tell them to create a Formspring account and you can find out more about them.
You can also find some accounts belonging to famous stars, such as Sherina or Sophia Latjuba. Who knows what you can find out if you stumble onto your favorite actor or singers’ accounts – imagine what you can ask them.
Formspring could be fun if you have many followers who continuously ask you interesting questions. Otherwise, if you are like me and don’t have many followers, while following too many people and too lazy to ask questions, the experience could be the opposite of fun.
Then again, don’t believe what I say before trying Formspring on your own.
