une 14, p. 6: The Golkar Party, founded by Soeharto after he came to power in the 1960s, might have forced President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to oust finance minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati but it failed to repeat its success in implementing a recent “pork barrel” scheme. Following public outcries, other members of the ruling coalition humiliated Golkar by abandoning their initial commitment to support an annual Rp 15 billion (US$1.5 million) scheme proposed by the coalition’s second-largest member.

Your comments:

I am afraid Golkar is still obsessed with the good old days of New Order (Orde Baru) era when they were a very powerful and unchallenged ruling party for over a quarter of a century. This happy time has long gone and Golkar must work hard for its own survival, just like other political organizations.
People are no longer convinced by such ideas like threats from left or right extremists like what Soeharto and his team used to say.
Now you guys come again with such a weird idea of Rp 15 billion per legislator. What is this all about? Why didn’t Golkar behave more professionally by elaborating your proposal thoroughly and publicize it openly in media?
