BADUNG: A spa and body treatment clinic in the Kuta area was gutted by fire at around 4 p.m. on Friday.

The fire razed the Galuh Bali Spa on Jl. Bypass Ngurah Rai, which had 13 rooms of 9 square meters each.

When the fire broke out, all of the spa's rooms were occupied, causing a panic among customers - mostly foreign tourists - and staff. No fatalities or injuries were reported.

At least 10 fire engines arrived to put out the blaze, but it took firefighters and local residents two hours to extinguish the fire. Kuta Police chief Adj. Comr. Wimboko said a leaking 12 kilograms gas cylinder was suspected of having caused the fire. "One of the gas cylinders used in the clinic leaked and caught fire when it was about to be installed.

"Other cylinders were engulfed in the fire and this caused an explosion," Wimboko said. - JP
