Text your say: The next attorney general

Your comment on much debate over whether the next attorney general appointed by the President should be a career prosecutor or an outsider.
I am nearing 70 years of age and living in quite pleasant Bogor. I am quite disgusted at what has been happening around us — it seems nothing works well anymore.
Now the question is whether the attorney general should be a career prosecutor or an outsider. Would that really make a difference?
The career prosecutor would have many years of experience in the office, an outsider would have none. The outsider can be expected to try his best, but he is working against basically negative odds — we cannot expect the poor man to achieve anything.
It is not the AGO that needs revamping but the whole system, from top to bottom, from inside to outside.
As long as we do not adhere to very strict standards and do not really make use of the death penalty our country will just continue down the road to oblivion.
That would be a shame, wouldn’t it?
If we declare war on corruption, establish the KPK, convict the corrupt people we can, — and eventually they get out of prison after a few months, what kind of example is that?
Sentencing is not heavy enough and corruption convicts get remission due to “good behavior”.
The people immediately surrounding the person in question also do not think of the person as of somebody evil.
We have a very weird interpretation of the sumpah jabatan, or employee oath. It seems to be a phrase to be uttered once and then forgotten.
If we want to attain a clean and just society we should start at the lowest school level to instill the values we are expected to uphold.

To me it is not important whether the next Attorney General is an insider or outsider as long as he or she is honest, humble, agreeable, low-profile, trustworthy and adheres to the law.
The candidate must have a good track record. In this case, as a Muslim, President SBY had best perform Istiharah prayers to seek Allah’s guidance in the hopes the next attorney general will be seriously do the job of law enforcement.

It doesn’t matter whether the next attorney general is a career prosecutor or an outsider.

I think, the next attorney general should be an outsider. But since they will be lacking experience, they must be trained first.
