AYAPURA, Papua: Jayapura is prepared to hold a second round election after none of the six first round tickets garnered 30 percent of the total votes.
The date for the second election will be determined after consultations with the central General Election Commission (KPU).
“Since none of the candidates won 30 percent plus 1 percent of the total votes, based on the law, there should be second round election,” Jayapura General Election Commission (KPUD) chief Hendrik Bleskadit said.
Candidate Benhur Tommy Mano and running mate Nur Alam Benhur won 29,13 percent of the votes registered in the Oct. 11 election, surpassing Jan Hendrik, who tallied 19,79 percent of votes. — JP
