URABAYA: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to attend a series of programs in Surabaya starting on Monday.
With the President’s tour of the city to run until Wednesday, he will run his administration provisionally from the Grahadi building.
The President will give a public lecture at the campus of the 10 November Institute of Technology, Surabaya on Tuesday. Following the lecture, he will inaugurate a robotics studies building on the campus.
“The President will also have a tour of the campus,” East Java province spokesperson Gunarto said Sunday.
Other events will include the President’s launch of loan program provided by BNI, BRI and Mandiri for Indonesian migrant workers.
The program aims to provide low interest loans, estimated at Rp 5 million (US$555) per person, to those who want to work as migrant workers abroad.
“The loan payments will be deducted from their monthly wages. They don’t need to go elsewhere anymore to cover their needs for passports and departure expenses,” Gunarto said.
Destination countries for workers include Malaysia, Taiwan, South Korea and the Middle Eastern countries. — JP
