ENPASAR: The Bali Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency again issued warnings to local fishermen, ship crews and those involved in marine activities to remain alert as high waves and strong winds could affect Bali waters in the next three days.
“We strongly warn fishermen in small fishing boats to be very careful when they go out to the sea, as they face the threat of 3-meter-high waves and strong winds,” meteorologist Satria Topan Pribadi said.
Extreme weather and the threat of Tropical Cyclone Vince, which built strength last week off the northwest of Australia, have been blamed for the high waves along Bali and West and East Nusa Tenggara, as well as in other parts of eastern Indonesia.
A number of Bali’s coastal areas such as Buleleng, Tabanan and Jembrana have been hit by sea abrasions and high waves.
Putu Anom Agustina, the head of Bali Disaster Mitigation Handling Agency, called on regional authorities to closely monitor weather conditions in their respective areas. —JP
