usic enthusiasts ranging from metal heads to pop lovers might want to set aside their pocket money or salary for the upcoming concerts to be held in various cities in Indonesia.

Just a few days away on Sept. 20 is the Big Wave Festival to be held in Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Jakarta. The festival features American rock band Bad Religion, whose guitarist Brett Gurewitz is responsible for creating the prolific Epitaph records.

The festival, ticket prices for which range from Rp 200,000 (US$22.8) to Rp 600,000, also feature two other American rock bands: Panic!

At The Disco and Yellowcard, the latter, whose unique sound features a violin, has just released its new album When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes, this year after a two-year hiatus.

Following fresh on the tracks of the Big Wave Festival, rock band Linkin Park, which has won over 20 awards including two Grammys, is slated to hold a concert as part of its “A Thousand Suns” tour at the same venue. The concert’s ticket price tags are noticeably higher than the festival, with the cheapest being Rp 400,000 and the VVIP as much as Rp 4 million.

Big Daddy Entertainment Group, which is behind the festival as well as the Linkin Park concert, seems to have their hands full with yet another event, a Rod Stewart concert.

Those who are after faster and heavier beats would probably prefer the Suicide Silence concert, slated to be held in the Tennis Indoor Senayan venue.

The five-piece metal band will play alongside Alesana and Set Your Goal in the PSD Supergig! event on Sept. 17 and 18. Ticket prices range from Rp 275,000 to Rp 500,000.

Obscura, another metal band, is scheduled to tour four cities in Indonesia: Jakarta, Surabaya, Medan in North Sumatra, and Makassar in South Sulawesi. The Jakarta concert will be held on Sept. 2 in Mario’s Place bar, Menteng.

Tickets are limited to 500 with a pre-sale price of Rp 100,000.

Hip-hop and soul music fanciers will have their plates full as well this year, with at least three events allowing them the chance to shake their stuff with local as well as international stars.

For a start, there’s the three-day festival of Java Soulnation in Istora Senayan, Jakarta. Glittering names such as Public Enemy, Naughty by Nature, Nelly and Sophie Ellis Bextor are gracing the list of performers at the event sponsored by a number of major brands such as LA Lights and Bakrie Connectivity’s AHA.

Local stars to perform in the event, which spans from Sept. 23 to 25, include RAN, Maliq and D’Essentials and T-Five. The ticket prices for Soulnation range from around Rp 200,000 for “Special Shows” for Nelly and LMFAO, which requires a same-day pass or a three-day pass, to around Rp 900,000 for a three-day pass.

The party doesn’t stop there, though, because the rapper known for hits such as “Candy Shop” and “P.I.M.P”, 50 Cent, is slated to hold a show in Epicentrum Walk, Kuningan, Jakarta, on Oct. 8, while Pitbull is scheduled to visit Jakarta for the second time on Dec. 6.

“PITBULL 6/12 Tennis Indoor Senayan, tix Price : LIMITED Presale 1; Tribune 350rb Fest 450rb, avail on Sept. 10. Dale Go!” tweeted Trilogylive, the concert’s promoter.

Fans of Jason Mraz better watch out for his return to Indonesia, on Nov. 9 in Bali, as part of his mini tour with percussionist Toca Rivera, as announced on his official website.

Mraz performed at the Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta two years ago, a year after he released the album We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things, which launched him to fame. The album contains the laid-back hit “I’m Yours” which for a period even made it to the song list of Jakarta’s buskers.

Lenka, the musician known for her quirky-sweet style, is scheduled to hold a concert in Gandaria City, South Jakarta on Oct. 5.

This will be the second time that the Australian, whose hit single “The Show” was featured in the Ugly Betty series, will hold a concert in Indonesia.

According to Munkee, the media relations spokesman for MP entertainment, local musicians would open the concert for Lenka. “We are still pitching for the opening acts,” he said.

MP Enter is targeting around 3,000 to 3,500 audience members for the concert, which is partly to promote the artist’s new album: Two. Tickets are priced at Rp 450,000.

Another pop act to watch for is Owl City. The music product of Minnesota resident and self-confessed daydream lover Adam Young’s insomnia will play in the Tennis Indoor Senayan venue on Oct. 28.

Owl City has released three albums since 2008, with the latest named All Things Bright and Beautiful, which was released this year.

There’s something for everyone, including jazz and 1980s music fans. Level 42, the band known for their hits such as “Love Games” and “Love in a Peaceful World” is coming to Jakarta to play a concert at Gran Melia hotel on Oct. 11 and in Surabaya on Oct. 13 as part as of their 30th anniversary tour.

Promoter Original Production said that they are targeting around 2,000 to 3,000 audience members.

“Our previous events included concerts by Deep Purple, Air Supply and the last one was Iron Maiden. We are concerned mostly with musicians that are considered legends and are well-established,” Arif Suharto, Original Production’s media relations staff, said.

According to the website of Midas Promotions, Irish boy band, or rather, man-band or music group if you wish, Westlife is also scheduled for a show in Jakarta on Oct. 5.
