ndonesian Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro received a medal from the Russian Federation for significant contributions in strengthening the military and technical cooperation between Russia and Indonesia.

Purnomo was given the medal, inscribed with the words “for strengthening combat fraternity”, by Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Alexander A. Ivanov at a ceremony in Jakarta on Tuesday.

In a decree awarding Purnomo the medal that was signed on July 19, Russian Defense Minister A. Serdyukov praised Purnomo for enhancing relations between Russia and Indonesia, especially in the area of military cooperation.

The Russian Embassy said that several high officials, including ministers of Russia’s allies, have been awarded the medal for contributions in strengthening combat fraternity with the Russian Federation.

Ivanov said that both countries were “ready for the joint production of military equipment and the transfer of knowledge and technology.”

“We are already negotiating with other military complexes and units in Indonesia. It is a mutual beneficial business.”

“Indonesia and Russia have a long standing diplomatic relationship, since the time of the independence of Indonesia,” Ivanov said.
