AKARTA: Governor Fauzi Bowo warned the company working on a sewer project along Jl. Jend. Sudirman in South Jakarta that it could face penalties if it failed to produce high quality work.

Fauzi said that the contractor, PT Idee Murni Pratama, could be barred from future government tenders if it failed to honor its contract.

“I have ordered local officials to closely monitor the project,” Fauzi said.

The Jakarta Police and the City Public Works Agency have lambasted the company for failing to meet road-work standards and aggravating traffic congestion in one of the city’s most important thoroughfares.

The construction of the two culverts, each of which are 1.1 kilometers long and between 1.2 and 1.5 meters wide, has taken up a lane on each side of Jl. Jend. Sudirman.
