AKARTA: After weeks of delay, the city administration has received a delivery of equipment for the electronic identity (e-ID) card project from the Home Ministry.
Head of the Jakarta Civil Registration Agency, Purba Hutapea, said that 85 sets of equipment had been received.
“With this additional equipment, we can collect identification data from up to 12,000 people a day,” Purba said.
Each package contains desktop computers, fingerprint and iris scanners, cameras and modems. The ministry is expected to deliver a total of 707 sets.
As of Thursday, the agency had collected data from more than 3.5 million residents, out of a total of more than 7.2 million eligible for e-ID cards.
The city administration has said it would not be able to meet the December deadline for data collection and distribution of the e-ID by the ministry.
