urfing the web is always fun and interesting mostly because of the numerous things we can find and share through the Internet.

Many web pages out there consist of information that is funny, unbelievable, informative, entertaining and sometimes even enlightening. Very often people share interesting sites with their friends through Twitter or other social networking sites.

Sometimes, however, a web address can’t be accessed as it turns out that the web page is inactive. In other words, you don’t know that certain web companies have terminated their services until you try to open their site.

To prevent this kind of situation, you need to check out www.isitold.com . It allows users to check not only the age of a web page address (URL), but also how many times people have tweeted about it.

“Before you make a complete fool of yourself when you send a link to your friends, colleagues or Twitter followers, enter it here to make sure it’s fresh,” is written on the web page.

For the purpose, the site is quite handy because certainly there’s a difference between knowing how old a web page is and finding out when people started talking about it on Twitter. Moreover, sharing information through Twitter has become a habit of some people.

So, how does it work?

To know how old a web page address is, simply copy then paste the web address and enter it on the “Is It Old?” web page. The site will answer how old the page you submit is and how many times people have tweeted about it. Prepare yourself for some funny explanations.

I tested the website by submitting several links. When I entered my own blog address, the answer was, “You’re the first. Number one. You must be some sort of Internet pioneer! It has not been shared on Twitter yet.”

I received another amusing answer when I submitted www.bistip.com a peer-to-peer courier. The answer was, “Ridiculously old. This is starting to seriously smell. Watch it and move on. It has been tweeted 95 times already, and the first time was 257 days ago.”

A humorous answer also appeared when I submitted The Jakarta Post’s website. The answer was, “Dead. ABORT. I don’t even know if computers can run this anymore. It has been tweeted 136 times already, and the first time was 974 days ago”.

Unfortunately, users will get a “fail” when they submitting an incorrect URL. Since many websites have been shared on Twitter in short form, it’s inaccurate to check how many times a web page has been shared on Twitter.

Inaccurate information also came out when I submitted a web page after posting it on Twitter. After I submitted The Jakarta Post’s web address, tweeted the URL several times, then checked it again on “Is It Old?”, the answer or comment was still the same. Even after I waited for several days.

Therefore, the accuracy of the tweet counter is off too. But regardless of the accuracy, this website is quite fresh. Just like the answer you get when you submit the site’s own web page address: www.isitold.com.

It says: “MAD FRESH! Regardless of how old it is. This link is ALWAYS worth sharing!”
