LEMAN: Vice President Boediono led the commemoration of Social Solidarity National Day at the Prambanan Temple, Yogyakarta, on Monday.

Also attending the commemoration, which is celebrated annually on Dec. 20, were Social Affairs Minister Salim Segaf Al Jufri and Yogyakarta deputy governor Sri Paduka Pakualam.

The day was inspired by the bond formed between the Indonesian Military and civilians when running a counter offensive against the second Dutch invasion in 1948.

The commemoration was first staged when Moeljadi Djojomartono was the country’s social affairs minister in 1958, kompas.com reported.

Several awards were given during the event to organizations and social workers who were considered as having contributed to the local
community.
